Building on existing Fair Trade certifications, FairTrade+ certification offers a new tiered-system recognizing companies and producers who exceed basic standards in wealth redistribution, environmental sustainability, and community development. It essentially adds a new tier of 'doing good through consumption' to the concept of fair trade. However, like Fair Trade today, this upgraded version may not lead to structural changes. This provides consumers with slightly 'better' choices within the existing system.
